Top Magento Extensions
Hundreds of web agencies, development teams and web design freelancers have dedicated their time on creating Magento Extensions.
Even when there are plenty Magento Extensions available it takes a lot of time to find them. Perhaps that’s because most Magento sites are new and don’t rank well in search engines. To save your time we’ve created a list of the Top Magento Extentions.
Of course we’ll start with the Magento Connect as it offers the largest selection of Magento Extentions. However, it’s not really easy to find the extension you need even if it’s listed there. I suppose it happens due to a poor search feature.
If you need more Magento Extentions you should search the sites listed below.
- AheadWorks.com provides a hure range of Magento extentions and Magento add-ons including Advanced Reports, Help Desk Ultimate, AJAX Cart Pro, Follow Up email, etc

Follow up on the Magento Guide Roundup
The official Magento blog has recently published the Magento Book Roundup.
It has highlighted 6 Magento guides in total:
- The Official Magento User Guide by the Varien Team
- The Definitive Magento Guide by Adam McCombs
- Magento: Beginner’s Guide by William Rice
- Magento 1.3 Theme Design by Richard Carter
- Online-Shops mit Magento by Roman Zenner or “Online Shops with Magento”
- Magento – Das Handbuch für Entwickler by Claus Nortmann, Dimitri Gatowski, Daniel Brylla, Sebastian Heuer or “Magento – The Developer’s Handbook”
As you may suggest the post on useful Magento guides received many comments. However, most comments were promoting Grow with Magento. It’s another Magento book that wasn’t mentioned in the official roundup.
As we’ve found our Grow with Magento is the unofficial Magento users’ guide that is being updated quite often. According to comments it is very helpful for Magento users as well as Magento developers.
It’s not that we want to promote Grow with Magento. It’s that we want to understand if this book is really so useful or was it just a wise marketing promotion by those who have written it?
We don’t want to offend anyone, we just want to show the right way to the Magento community.
So, what is your opinion about the Magento guides? Is the Magento Book Roundup complete or it lacks any comprehensive guide?

Important Tips about Magento Updates
As you may see from our posts Magento eCommerce software is being updated quite often.
Recently the Magento Team decided to improve the release process. Therefore, any upcoming release of Magento will be marked with a special suffix.
The suffix will define the Stability Status of the new Magento release. In other words Magento users, testers and developers will know what to expect from the latest update.
For instance a few days ago the Magento Preview Version 1.4.0.0-alpha1has been released. However, it’s not recommended to be used in a production environment. It is available for testing purposes only. How do we know this? Well, that’s what the suffix at the end of the release name means.
To make a long story short all upcoming Magento releases will be named according to the next scheme: X.Y.Z.P-Stability Status#. Where X is the major version number, Y is a minor version number, Z is a revision version number and P is a patch version number. As for the Stability Status# it can be Alpha, Beta or Release Candidate. If no Stability Status# is specified, it means the release is production ready and stable.
Please visit the official Magento blog to learn more about the New Community Edition Release Process.

Help the Magento Community Edition grow
Not long ago the Magento Team has released the Magento Enterprise Edition. It’s a bit different from the free version of Magento that is so popular with online retailers.
The key difference in that the Magento Enterprise Edition comes with many additional features and services that are not available in the open source version. Also, the Community Edition of Magento is available at no cost while the Enterprise Edition costs for about $8,900/year.
Basically the Magento Enterprise Edition is created for large companies. If you run a small online store and can not afford the paid version of Magento you can join the Magento forum or the Magento Connect, and more than likely you’ll find any theme or extension you need there.
Please visit the Magento site to learn what exactly differs the Enterprise Edition of Magento from the Community Edition.
The good thing is that both Magento editions are based on the same Magento Core code, and the Magento Team continues to support the open source edition.
With this in mind the Magento Team invites you to discuss what essential features the Magento Community Edition still lacks. You can either add a new idea or vote for the ideas that are already submitted. The best ideas will be taken into consideration. In other words the most voted features will be added to the free version of Magento.
Be sure to help Magento to be the best open source ecommerce platform!
