Magento or osCommerce? Who Is The Winner?

Since the first days of Magento it has always been compared to osCommerce. After all osCommerce has been a top eCommerce solution for quite a long time.

For the past few years a lot of articles and researches have been written to compare Magento and osCommerce, and every time there is a new aspect to consider. Today I came across one of such articles. It’s entitled eCommerce Wars: The Secret Behind Magento Popularity Over osCommerce and I bet the article is worth your attention.

Not only will you be impressed by the article itself but a hot discussion it has inspired. So make sure you read the comments and share your own point of view.

The authors of the above mentioned article come to the conclusion that Magento beats osCommerce and what do you think about it?

Magento Becomes More Popular Than osCommerce

For about a year ago we’ve been excited by how fast Magento was growing and how many people were looking for Magento online.

To make a long story short, last March we’ve used Google Trends to compare what open source shopping carts were the most popular with net surfers. It turned out that Magento was getting more and more searches while osCommerce, Zen Cart and CRE Loaded have been enjoying the same level of success or even losing their power.

A year has passed from the day of our research, so let’s see if something has changed since then.

Wow, the results are shocking! Magento continues its growth and osCommerce gets fewer searches every months.

Does it mean Magento becomes even more popular than osCommerce? It seems so.

Does it mean you should take a closer look at Magento if you haven’t done it before? Yes, definitely!

Magento becomes a passion

This post can be also called “Good news for Magento and bad news for other shopping cart applications”. Let’s find out the details.

What are the most popular open source shopping carts available? As for me these are Magento, osCommerce, Zen Cart and CRE Loaded. Of course there are more of them but I prefer studying only widespread ones.

What I have in mind is to see if Magento is really that popular as we hear about it. With this in mind I’ve used Google Trends. As you probably know Google Trends enables users to learn how popular a particular search term has been on Google over time and see the relevant news articles that ran on that subject. So I’ve entered words Magento, osCommerce, Zen Cart and CRE Loaded into the search box and here are the results

I trust Google and that’s the reason why I congratulate Magento. Obviously it’s the most often searched shopping cart solution on Google. Time will show if it’ll be as popular in the future as it is now but these days Magento is on the top!

As you can see this post doesn’t review certain peculiarities of Magento or other shopping carts. It simply shows the latest search trends and thus the growing interest to Magento.
